Dream Theater Update

Dream Theater -- Santiago, Chile. 2014 John ZoccoHi all,

After several successful world tours and another Grammy nomination for Dream Theater, the followup to their last eponymously titled album is well under way. Since January, I’ve been in a New York area studio with the band as they fleshed out outlines, themes and completed the writing of the new album. The recording project had been put on hold temporarily while Dream Theater toured across Europe, playing festivals as large as 750,000 fans (see photo below). As James has mentioned in several interviews, we are reconvening to begin recording vocals in August.

woodstock_0John [Petrucci] and James [LaBrie] were interviewed recently at the Wacken Festival in Germany and outlined more details about the new album here. As well, you can watch the interview on YouTube.

Speaking of, this YT video of bloopers reminds me of some days we have in the studio

Rush R40 Billboard #2

R40-coverHi all,

Rush’s recent release R40 celebrates 40 years of Rush. A week after its initial release, the 6 BluRay disc set has landed firmly at #2 on Billboard’s DVD Sales chart for the week of November 29.

I am very honoured to have been involved with the production of 4 of the 6 live shows included in this DVD package by mixing R30, Snakes & Arrows Live, and Time Machine as well as recording Clockwork Angels Live and Time Machine.

So here’s to Ged, Al, and Neil for 40 great years and continued great music and success for another 40 to come!

Be well,

R

Anatomy of a Mix Seminars, Rush

AOAM-sm Hi all,

In late 2013, I was approached by Solid State Logic and HHB Canada (who distribute SSL in Canada) to do a talk called ‘Anatomy of a Mix’, where I’d dissect a mix and go over methods and approaches. Our December event in Montreal turned out to be a great success so we’re doing a few more. The next one is at Noble Street Studio in Toronto, Canada on March 6, which is now fully booked (second show, maybe?). We have several more to announce soon across Canada and the US. I really appreciate everyone’s interest and hearing about you as well so thanks very much for coming out and sharing your time!

Merry Christmas!

dt2013_happy_holidays_smallHi all!

The merriest of Christmases to everyone. This year is wrapping up and I’m so grateful to have enjoyed a year filled with stellar artists and amazing music from Dream Theater, Rush, Skillet and more. And to fans and listeners, thank you so much for your ongoing support and appreciation.

December was a flurry of top-secret Dream Theater prep as we mixed and mastered a bunch of live, unreleased material from the last tour. It’s raw and super-vibey. I hope you all enjoy it! The band’s press release detailing the generous gift to their loyal fans posted via torrent Christmas Day is attached below.

Peace, health, happiness and prosperity for 2014.

Be well,

R
