After several successful world tours and another Grammy nomination for Dream Theater, the followup to their last eponymously titled album is well under way. Since January, I’ve been in a New York area studio with the band as they fleshed out outlines, themes and completed the writing of the new album. The recording project had been put on hold temporarily while Dream Theater toured across Europe, playing festivals as large as 750,000 fans (see photo below). As James has mentioned in several interviews, we are reconvening to begin recording vocals in August.
John [Petrucci] and James [LaBrie] were interviewed recently at the Wacken Festival in Germany and outlined more details about the new album here. As well, you can watch the interview on YouTube.
Speaking of, this YT video of bloopers reminds me of some days we have in the studio

In late 2013, I was approached by Solid State Logic and HHB Canada (who distribute SSL in Canada) to do a talk called ‘Anatomy of a Mix’, where I’d dissect a mix and go over methods and approaches. Our December event in Montreal turned out to be a great success so we’re doing a few more. The next one is at Noble Street Studio in Toronto, Canada on March 6, which is now fully booked (second show, maybe?). We have several more to announce soon across Canada and the US. I really appreciate everyone’s interest and hearing about you as well so thanks very much for coming out and sharing your time!

The band’s press release detailing the generous gift to their loyal fans posted via torrent Christmas Day is attached below.
Peace, health, happiness and prosperity for 2014.
